I prefer to learn by making/doing but YouTube gets the better of me more often than I’d like. I am getting better though. I removed the YT app from my phone and have been focusing more on audio when I want to be exposed to new ideas. And I can listen while I walk so… doubleplusgood.
I recently found 3 radio sessions with Four Tet (Kieran Hebden) on Gilles Peterson’s show. Many of the original links are broken/unavailable now which is a shame. I stumbled upon each one accidentally, in different places & times. I highly recommend you check them out.
An eclectic DJ set followed by an excellent interview with Nigel Godrich.
A rare interview and listening session talking through Kieran’s formative music experiences.
A lovely tribute to Steve Reid and discussion of their collaboration.
It can be difficult listening to my heroes talk about their process. Usually because I end up comparing myself to them and wondering why I don’t feel what they felt, think what they think, or make what they make. Of course, this is an absurd thing to worry about but so many things are. Keiran is so humble, thoughtful and insightful that I was just glad these existed and that I found them.
